Sherlock Holmes is the overall title given to the series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by the British television company Granada Television between 1984 and 1994. The first two series were shown under the title The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and were followed by subsequent series with the titles of other short story collections by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes uses his abilities to take on cases by private clients and those that the Scotland Yard are unable to solve, along with his loyal friend Dr. Watson. The series starred Jeremy Brett as Holmes. Watson was played by David Burke in the first series (Adventures) and by Edward Hardwicke from the second series (Return) onwards.
This was my favourite series growing up, I would watch it every morning and was so influenced by it that when I was ask to choose an instrument to learn I chose a violin. Jeremy Brett is a magnificent actor and his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes will always be unmatched. This is a perfect series to watch in autumn and winter, with the crackling fires, the old country pubs and the mist over the moss covered moors.
I have found it impossible to pick a favourite but the episode 'Shoscombe Old Place' is perfect the perfect thing to watch for autumn, with plenty of mystery and a surprising appearance from Jude Law.
